How to build it
- Cut the shelf to 24″ and the cleat to 22″.
- Find the studs. A 24″ shelf spans at least two studs at 16″ centres, so screw the cleat into both. Check it with a level before the second screw.
- Set the shelf on the cleat and mark where the cleat meets its underside.
- Drive screws down through the shelf into the cleat, countersinking them so they can be filled.
- Fill the screw holes, sand flush, and finish.
